Classification of our adhesives for reaction to fire results from additional standard requirements introduced with the updated PN-EN 12008, not included in the previous issue. Such requirement results directly from EU Directive 89/106/EEC regarding building materials. Each building material subject to requirements of European standards harmonised with that Directive should be classified for reaction to fire. Reaction to fire is explained as behaviour of a product which , due to its decomposition, suports development of fire to which the product is exposed in specified conditions. Classification for reaction to fire is made based on a series of tests set in the subject standard PN-EN 13501-1. After testing, the product concerned is classified under one of 7 Euro-classes (A1, A2, B, C, D, E or F), and (except for the A1 class) classified for generation of smoke (marking s1, s2 or s3), and for presence of flaming droplets/waste (marking d0, d1 or d2). Moreover, in case of floors and flooring products (as the tile adhesives are), additional classification for reaction to fire is applied, taking into consideration such purpose of adhesive, marked with lower case “fl” (classes A1fl to Ffl). Our AK 509 and AK 510 adhesives have the A1/A1fl class of reaction to fire, whereas the others (AK 511 to AK 512), the A2-s1,to /A2fl-s1 class respectively. In view of the domestic regulations, items classified under those two classes of reaction to fire, are non-combustible products, having completely no effect on development of fire. ALPOL adhesives are therefore safe products as regards fire safety, and they can be used in locations of potential exposure to fire.
